Protest hands

Uncategorized

IMG_4176These small metal sculptures of hands are miniatures based on Peter Burke’s original and much larger piece, Register, from 2003. In that piece, based on a silent crowd protest, Burke used 2000 cast iron copies of his hand.

Here, I was struck by the morning winter sunlight, which gave beautiful definition and shadows to the mini set on my mantelpiece. For me, a small-scale reminder of beauty, the strength of the human spirit, solidarity, and the importance and power of protest.
